Wilmington – Wilmington Police Criminal Investigations Division along with patrol officers have arrested three juveniles in reference to a recent rash of delivery driver robberies in the city.
The Wilmington Police Department had been advising citizens as well as business owners of a recent increase in food delivery person robberies. The robbery suspects allegedly lured driver’s of several area restaurants with food orders to fictitious or false addresses, according to police. Officials said that arriving delivery persons would then be robbed of cash as food.
Wilmington Police Department advised business owners or establishment managers as well as citizens to report any suspicious persons, suspicious calls, vehicles, or activity by calling 911.
An alert Wilmington business owner recently notified Wilmington Police of a suspicious call for service and notified police due to the robbery trend. Uniformed officers immediately set up surveillance in the area and were able to locate two juvenile male suspects, ages, 14, and 15 were placed into custody without incident.
Extensive follow up investigative efforts by the Criminal Investigations Division led to a third juvenile, identified as a 14 year old male being arrested in reference to this crime trend.
The three male juveniles were ultimately charged with (4) Counts of Robbery 1st Degree, (2) Counts of Attempted Robbery 1st Degree, (3) Counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, (2) Counts of Robbery 2nd Degree, (2) Counts Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree, (9) Counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree. One of the 14 year old juvenile males was additionally charged with (2) Counts of Carjacking in the 1st Degree
All three juvenile males are being held at the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of cash bail.
