70-Year-Old Man Shot In Wilmington This Morning, Suspect May Only Be 13-Years-Old

Wilmington – Wilmington Police (WPD) officers are investigating a shooting that occurred this morning, according to authorities.

13th-frenchOfficials said that at approximately 5:40 a.m. this morning, Sunday, 29 January 2017, officers from WPD responded to the Compton Village neighborhood where they located a 70-year-old male victim. The man was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his left leg, in the 300 block of E. 5th Street, according to police.

Police said that the victim was approached by an unknown, black male suspect, described as being 13-14 years old in the area of 13th and French Street. The suspect demanded the victim’s property at gunpoint and a struggle ensued, resulting in the victim being shot, said police.

The victim was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to the Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

The suspect then fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. The victim walked to the area of the 300 block of E. 5th Street where police were notified. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information relative to this incident is asked to contact Detective Matthew Geiser at 302-576-3620.
