Family Van Shot At Driving On Naamans Road

Claymont – Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident in which an occupied vehicle was struck that occurred late yesterday afternoon, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Jeffrey R. Hale.

Hales said that the investigation began at approximately 5:17 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, after troopers were called to respond to the area of Naamans Road and Ridge Road in Claymont, for the report of shots fired.

Arriving troopers made contact with a 37 year old male victim who advised that he had been operating a 2001 Ford Windstar van and was traveling in an eastbound direction on Naamans Road in the area of Ridge Road, when the side of his car was struck by three rounds fired by an unknown suspect from an unknown make and model gun.

The victim then pulled his vehicle, which was also occupied by a 33-year-old female, a 4-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl, into the parking lot of the Naamans Beverage Mart, located at 109 Naamans Road, where he then called 9-1-1. There were no injuries.

As responding troopers were checking the area for evidence, they observed that a 2013 Kia Optima, which had been parked in the parking lot of the Beverage mart, had also been struck by a round.

This incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. There are no suspects at this time.
