Man Sought After Smyrna Police Chase

Smyrna –  In a statement issued yesterday Smyrna Police (SPD) said that they are actively searching for Usef Dickerson, 30 of Middletown after an early morning vehicle pursuit, according to police.

Authorities said that on January 28, 2017 at around 3:48 a.m. a SPD officer on patrol attempted to stop a Ford Taurus for registration violations on Rt 13 in the area of Jimmy Dr.

Before being able to contact the operator of this vehicle, it fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed, said police.  SPD initiated a vehicle pursuit onto SR 1 north bound and eventually onto Rt 13 north bound just north of Smyrna town limits, according to authorities. The pursuit was terminated when speeds became excessive in the area of Rt 13 and Blackbird Forest Road.

Officials said that the vehicle was later discovered by DSP Troop 9 officers in the area of Union Church Rd abandoned and crashed.  Through investigation, SPD said that they were able to identifie Usef Dickerson as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle during the pursuit.  He is currently wanted by the Smyrna Police Department for Disregarding a Police Officer’s signal and various traffic charges, said police.

Mr. Dickerson is also wanted by Delaware State Police Troop 2 for fleeing a previous unrelated collision in their jurisdiction as well as several court capiases.
