Newark – New Castle County Police have arrested 26-year-old Dakai Chavis for burglary and peeping related charges stemming from numerous incidents in the communities of Hunter’s Crossing and Harbor Club Apartments, according to New Castle County Police Spokesman JP Piser.
Piser said that starting in late August, 2016, County Detectives initiated an investigation into reports of burglaries and someone peeping into windows in the communities of Hunter’s Crossing and Harbor Club Apartments. Through the investigation, detectives determined that it was the same suspect committing both acts and were further able to identify him as Dakai Chavis, Piser said.
On January 4th, 2017, detectives served a search warrant at Dakai Chavis’ residence in the 2600 block of Normandy Lane in Newark. Upon a search of the residence, detectives allegedly located evidence further implicating Dakai Chavis in the burglary and peeping incidents, according to Piser.
Dakai Chavis was charged with five counts of second-degree burglary, one count of theft of a firearm and four counts of trespassing with intent to peer or peep into a door or window. He was arraigned and committed to Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $50,000 secured bail. He was issued a no contact order with Hunter’s Crossing and Harbor Club Apartments.
