16-Year-Old Shot In Wilmington

Wilmington – On Friday, February 3, 2017 at approximately 7:39 p.m., Wilmington Police Officers responded to the area of S. Van Buren and Beech Street in reference to a Shot Spotter notification of gunfire, according to Wilmington Police Department.

Officials said that arriving police units were able to locate a shooting scene, however no victim was located. Minutes later, 911 dispatchers received a call in reference to a 16-year-old juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound to his left leg in the 300 Block of N. Connell Street.

Assisting officers responded to Connell Street along with New Castle County Paramedics who treated the victim on scene and transported him to the St. Francis Hospital Emergency Room in good condition, according to police. The preliminary investigation indicates that the 16-year-old male victim was shot while inside of a vehicle at S. Van Buren and Beech Street, according to authorities.

Police said that there is no suspect information available at this time and ask anyone with information relative to the incident to call Detective Devon Jones at 302-576-3620.
