Newark – New Castle County Police have arrested Joy Askew, 22, and Dontae Sutton, 25, for drug related charges following traffic violations in the community of Glasgow Pines, according to New Castle County Police Spokesman JP Piser.
Piser said that last Friday, Feb 17, 2017 at about 11:00 p.m., County Police Patrol “B-Squad” officers observed a silver Ford Fiesta commit a traffic violation in the community of Glasgow Pines.
Officers conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Salem Church Rd and Pulaski Hwy and contacted the driver, Joy Askew, and passenger, Dontae Sutton, said Piser. Officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed marijuana in plain view, according to Piser.
Piser said that officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a bag containing 1,326 capsules of heroin and as a bag containing marijuana residue with apparent teeth marks on it. Through the investigation, officers determined that Dontae Sutton had swallowed the marijuana, Piser said.
Joy Askew was charged with possession of heroin in a Tier-5 quantity, possession with intent to distribute heroin in a Tier-4 quantity, second-degree conspiracy, failure to properly signal and failure to signal. She was arraigned and committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution after failing to post $102,020 cash-only bail.
Dontae Sutton was charged with possession of heroin in a Tier-5 quantity, possession with intent to distribute heroin in a Tier-4
quantity, tampering with physical evidence and second-degree conspiracy. He was arraigned and committed to Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $104,000 cash-only bail.
Piser said that the defendants were issued no contact orders with each other.
