Corner Store Customer Hit By Gunfire In Wilmington

Wilmington – On February 16, 2017 at approximately 7:38 p.m., Wilmington Police Officers responded to the corner store located at 942 Bennett Street, the M & A Market, in regards to a commercial burglary alarm, according to Wilmington Police.

Officials said that upon arrival they were advised that unknown suspects, who were located outside, began shooting. A short time later, 911 was notified that a 20 year old, male victim had arrived at the Wilmington Hospital Emergency Room by private vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the left elbow.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was inside of the store standing at the counter when he heard gunfire. After the shooting ceased he realized that he had been struck and was taken to the hospital by a friend. The victim is in stable condition. The investigation remains active and ongoing and anyone with information relative to this incident is asked to call Detective Anthony Ford at 302-576-3606
