Milford – On Sunday, February 12, 2017 at approximately 3:17 am officers from the Milford Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to a report of a suspicious person in a victim’s vehicle, on Southeast 2nd Street, according to Milford Police Spokesman Sgt. Robert Masten.

burglary-stock-newMasten said the subject had left the scene prior to police arriving but was being followed by the victim. Responding officers were able to make contact with William C. Phillips, 43 of Milford, on South Washington Street and took him into custody without incident, Masten said.

Further investigation revealed the victim was awaken by the audible car alarm, at which time he observed Mr. Phillips in his vehicle, said Masten. As a result of this incident the vehicle’s computer system malfunctioned and will require repair, according to Masten. Mr. Phillips was not known to the victim in this case, said Masten.

Mr. Phillips has been charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief Under $1500.00. Mr. Phillips was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #3, where bail was set at $750.00 unsecured. Mr. Phillips is scheduled to appear at the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas on February 16, 2017 for a Preliminary Hearing.
