Brode said that an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding at approximately 3:07 pm, on South DuPont Hwy. in the area of Gordon Street.

Police contacted the driver, identified at Mr. Schley and confirmed he was the only occupant in the vehicle, said Brode. After speaking to Mr. Schley the officer requested the Harrington Police Department K-9 to respond to conduct a narcotics scan of the vehicle.

The K-9 allegedly alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and officers conducted a vehicle search, according to Boade. During the search of the vehicle police allegedly located over $4,000 and 99 cartons of untaxed cigarettes. Police then took Mr. Schley into custody and transported him to the Harrington Police Department for processing.

Police also seized all the cigarettes as evidence and police also seized the money along with Mr. Schley’s vehicle.

Mr. Schley was charged with Attempt to Evade or Defeat Tax, Possession of Untaxed Tobacco Products and Speeding. He was processed and arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 7. He was then released on $551 unsecured bond.
