Newark – New Castle County Police are currently searching for David Brainard, 37, with a last known address in the 2500 block of Centerville Road in Wilmington. Active warrants are currently on file after he fled from an officer yesterday morning, according to Cpl. Tracey Duffy.
Duffy said that on Tuesday morning, an officer was conducting speed enforcement in the area of South Harmony Road and Rt. 273 when he directed a 2005 Nissan Altima to pull over. The vehicle began to pull to the shoulder as the driver, later identified as Brainard began screaming “that his mother was just taken to the hospital.”, according to Duffy. The officer continued to motion the driver to pull over and the vehicle finally stopped on the shoulder.
As the officer approached the vehicle, it accelerated and turned left to merge into the lane of traffic on Rt. 273. The vehicle’s right rear view mirror then struck the officer’s right hand, according to Duffy.
Duffy said the vehicle was observed turning right onto Harmony Road, and as the officer approached the area, he observed a witness who advised the vehicle turned into Gallagher Elementary School. Additional witnesses directed the officer to the rear parking lot of the school, where the officer located the vehicle unoccupied.
The investigation revealed Brainard and Kimberly Ogden, the passenger, were both wanted by officers in reference to a theft that occurred earlier this year, according to Duffy.
Police have charged Brainard with disregarding a police officer’s signal, driving at an unreasonable speed, reckless endangering in the second degree, trespassing in the third degree and other traffic related offenses.
