Elsmere Apartment Fire “Was Deliberately Started”

Elsmere – The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office has determined that last night’s building fire in Elsmere, Delaware was deliberately started, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly before midnight occurred in the Fenwick Apartment complex in the 1300 block of Maple Avenue. The Elsmere Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the three story vacant apartment building, said Chionchio.

State fire investigators were called to the scene and are conducting the arson investigation. Chionchio said that the fire was intentionally started inside the unoccupied building.

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $100,000. There were no reported injuries.
