Prices Corner – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has identified the 53-year-old Wilmington man who was struck and killed in the hit-and-run crash that occurred on DE SR 2 west of Greenbank Road on Thursday, March 30, 2017, as Christopher Hess.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a hit-and-run crash which has claimed the life of a 53 year old Wilmington man, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Jeffrey R. Hale.
Hale said that the initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at approximately 8:54 p.m., as a male pedestrian was standing in the left hand lane of westbound DE SR 2 (Kirkwood Highway) west of Greenbank Road, attempting to pick up something from the roadway.
The pedestrian was then struck by an unknown make and model vehicle which was being operated by an unknown individual, and which was traveling in the left hand lane of SR 2, said Hale.
The male pedestrian was thrown to the ground where he was subsequently run over by a 2013 Toyota Tacoma, which was being operated by Ming C. Tsai, 56, of Wilmington. The initial striking vehicle fled westbound on SR 2 to an unknown destination. Ming Tsai was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop at the scene, according to Hale.
The male victim was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. He was then transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drug use on the part of the victim was a factor in this crash, however, he was dressed in all dark clothing and was not utilizing a marked cross walk.
The westbound lanes of De SR 2 were closed for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
