Original Story
Newark – Delaware State Police Robbery Unit detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a Newark man wanted in connection with a pair of robberies which have occurred in New Castle County over the past few weeks, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Jeffrey R. Hale.
Hale said that Detectives have obtained warrants charging Michael S. Berwick, 26, with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree and two counts of Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony after he was identified as the suspect who robbed a pair of businesses in the Newark area on March 9, 2017 and March 13, 2017.
In each instance, Berwick would enter the targeted location and present an employee with a demand note for cash, according to Hale. The note would imply that Berwick was armed, however, he did not display a weapon, said Hale. After obtaining cash, Berwick would then exit the business and flee in an unknown direction, added Hale. There were no injuries.
During the investigation, which included the review of video footage, the conducting of interviews, and the collection of physical evidence, detectives said that they were able to positively identify Berwick as the suspect who robbed the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant, located at 21 Chestnut Hill Plaza, Newark, on Thursday, March 9, 2017, as well as the Dunkin Donuts, located at 1126 Capitol Trail, Newark, on Monday, March 13, 2017.
The Middletown Police Department has also obtained warrants charging Berwick with the attempted robbery of the Dairy Queen, located at 100 Sandhill Drive, Middletown, on Thursday, March 9, 2017.
Michael Berwick is described as being 6’00″ tall, weighs approximately 190 lbs., has a thin build, light brown hair and hazel eyes.
Berwick’s description closely matches that of the suspects in the March 8, 2017, Kirkwood Highway Wendy’s robbery, the March 16, 2017, Pulaski Highway Wendy’s attempted robbery and the March 16, 2017, Old Baltimore Pike Valero robbery. Although all of the cases are very similar authorities have only publicly connected Berwick to the Wall Chinese Restaurant, Dunkin Donuts and the Middletown Dairy Queen incidents.
