Georgetown – Georgetown Police have arrested a man after he became disorderly and resisted arrest near Georgetown Elementary school. The incident occurred this afternoon, March 22, 2017 at approximately 2:30 p.m, according to Public Information Officer Detective Joey Melvin.
Melvin said that at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Georgetown School Resource Officer(SRO) was alerted by an Indian River School District Constable to suspicious activity in the Georgetown Elementary School parking lot.
When the SRO arrived at Georgetown Elementary, the suspicious subject began to walk away from the school in the direction of Pine Street, said Melvin. The SRO attempted to contact the subject who refused commands to stop. When contacted by the SRO, the subject continued to disregard commands, became evasive, and attempted to flee, according to Melvin.
A struggle between the SRO and subject ensued which resulted in damage to a vehicle which was parked on Pine Street, added Melvin. The subject was apprehended by the SRO with assistance from the school constable. During the investigation, it was discovered that Marin also had an active warrant which had been issued by Delaware State Police Troop 4.
35-year-old Marco Marin of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief. Marin was also arrested for terroristic threatening, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child resulting from his outstanding warrant, said Melvin. Marin was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $3500.00 secured bond.
