Two Motorcycle Riders Ejected After Hitting Car, One Dead

Delaware City – The New Castle County Police (NCCPD), Traffic Services Unit, continues its investigation of a fatal crash that occurred Saturday afternoon in the unit block of Clinton Street in Delaware City, according to NCCPD Spokeswoman CPL Tracey Duffy.

Duffy said that County Traffic Services Unit responded to Delaware City at the request of Chief David Baylor to conduct an investigation into a crash that occurred on Clinton Street.

The investigation revealed a 49-year-old male and a 48-year-old female were operating a 2010 Harley Davidson Motorcycle when it struck a Volkswagen sedan traveling eastbound on Clinton Street, according to Duffy.

A witness reported observing the female operator in the front seat of the motorcycle with the male seated behind her as both had their hands on the handle bars, said Duffy. The motorcycle made a wide right turn off of Delaware Avenue and onto Clinton Street before traveling into the path of the Volkswagen, Duffy added. The operator of the Volkswagen stopped in her lane just before the motorcycle struck the front of her vehicle.

Both operators of the motorcycle were ejected and struck the windshield of the Volkswagen and then thrown approximately 20 feet on the roadway.

The motorcycle operators were not wearing helmets and sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. They were both airlifted to the Christiana Medical Center.

The male operator, William Bradley, IV, died as a result of his injuries on Sunday afternoon at approximately 12:45 p.m. The female operator is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

The County Traffic Services Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol is being considered a factor in this crash, according to Duffy.
