Overturned Dump Truck Closes Route 13 Off-Ramp

New Castle – On Friday May 19, 2017, at approximately 10:24 a.m. Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) Police units responded to the ramp from I-295 N/B to Rt.13 N/B for a report of an overturned dump truck according to DRBA Public Information Officer James Salmon.

Responding units found that the dump truck had struck a set (17) of sand barrels/traffic cushions and a section of Jersey barrier causing the vehicle to overturn on its right side.

Salmon said the investigation revealed that the operator of the dump truck entered the ramp at an unsafe speed and subsequently lost control of the vehicle. DRBA Maintenance and DNREC units assisted in clearing the scene. The dump truck was removed to the left shoulder of Rt.13 N/B to await a lowboy semi-trailer.

The operator of the dump truck was issued Delaware citations for careless driving and unsafe speed for conditions. As of 5:00 p.m. Friday the ramp was still closed for debris removal and traffic barrier repair, said Salmon.
