63-Year-Old Bicyclist In Hospital After Being Struck By Vehicle

Newark – On June 24, 2017, at approximately 11:17 a.m., a 63-year-old male was stopped in the left turn lane of E/B Barksdale Road, on a bicycle.  A vehicle turned left from N/B Casho Mill Road, onto Barksdale Road., striking the stopped bicyclist, according to police.

The bicyclist was transported to Union Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The vehicle operator was cited for making an improper turn.

Newark – Newark Police (NPD)  are currently investigating an incident that occurred this morning. Just after 11:15 a.m NPD responded to the intersection of Casho Mill Road and Barksdale Road for a report of a pedestrian or cyclist struck.

Responding officers found an adult male suffering from unspecified injuries. Shortly after police arrived ambulance crews from Aetne Hose Hook and Ladder arrived on scene. Within minutes the patient was loaded into the ambulance and transported to Union Hospital for treatment.

The man was alert and talking to first reponders as he was loaded into the ambulance.

Once the medical crews left the scene police turned their attention to a woman who was waiting in a pickup truck. Its not clear if the woman was involved in the incident or just a witness.
