Heavy-Set Man Robs Brookside Cell Phone Store At Gunpoint


Newark – Delaware State Police are currently investigating the armed robbery of a Newark area cellular phone store that occurred yesterday evening. according to Public Information Officer Jeffry Hale.

Hale said the initial investigation has determined that the incident happened at approximately 6:44 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, as a male suspect entered the Verizon Wireless store located at 379 E. Chestnut Hill Road.

The suspect then approached the sales counter where he displayed an unknown make and model handgun and confronted two male employees of the store, according to Hale.

He then ordered the employees to turn over cellular phones to him, added Hale. The employees complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of cell phones. The suspect then exited the store and fled in an unknown direction. The employees were not injured.

The suspect was described as an Hispanic male. He was 5’10” tall, weighed 250-300 lbs., and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and had a black bandana partially covering his face.
