Injury Update: Late Night Motorcycle Ride Doesn’t End Well

Wilmington – New Castle County Police (NCCPD) have released more about their investigation into a motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday night.  NCCPD Spokesman JP Piser said the motorcycle was traveling on Boxwood Avenue away from Maryland Avenue at the same time a Silver Dodge Caravan was on the same road going towards Maryland Avenue.

The van made a left turn at Jackson Ave in front of the motorcycle, which resulted in a collision, according to Piser.

The motorcycle rider and his passenger were both transported to the hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

The van was occupied by the driver and two passengers. No injuries to the occupants of the van were reported.

The driver of the van was cited for failure to properly signal a turn and failure to yield to oncoming traffic, said Piser.

Earlier reports of a serious head injury were incorrect.

The motorcycle struck the van on the passenger side near the rear but it was unclear what caused the accident. Pieces of the motorcycle were strewn about the intersection.

Its not known how many people were transported to the hospital or the nature of their injuries.
