Multiple People Injured When Passenger Bus and Car Collide Near Bear

Newark – New Castle County Police are currently on scene investigating a head-on collision involving a senior center bus and a Hyundai sedan in the area of Songsmith Dr and Cymbal Ct, according to New Castle County Police.

Officials said today (June 14) at about 2:30 p.m., County Police were dispatched to the area of Songsmith Dr and Cymbal Ct for a motor vehicle collision. First responders arrived and found a C&D Senior Center/Rose Hill Community Center bus involved in a head-on crash with a Hyundai sedan. The bus was carrying five passengers, four passengers in their seventies and one in their nineties, at the time as well as a driver in their fifties.

The driver of the sedan, who is believed to be in his early twenties, was trapped in the vehicle and was removed by responding local fire department personnel.

All involved persons were provided first aid on the scene by responding New Castle County Paramedics and local fire department personnel.

The occupants of the bus were transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the sedan was transported to an area hospital with serious head injuries and is currently listed in critical condition.

Traffic Services Unit Detectives are currently on scene and have assumed the investigation.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. this afternoon New Castle County Police and Paramedics along with fire crews from Christiana Fire Company, Cranston Heights and Minquas responded to Songsmith Drive and Cymbal Court for an accident involving a senior center bus and a passenger car.
Responding units found the driver of the car trapped in his vehicle and the bus with multiple occupants injured.
The driver was trapped in the car for more than 30 minutes. Its unclear what injuries he suffered.
Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) landed nearby but was not utilized.
Multiple patients were transport by ambulance.
Songsmith Drive remains closed as police investigate.
