Police Update: Child Shot In The Head In Wilmington

Wilmington – On June 6, 2017 at approximately 2:34 p.m., Uniform Services Division and Criminal Investigations Division officer’s on routine patrol in the area of W.4th and Lombard Streets notified 911 Dispatch of Gunfire in their immediate area.

Simultaneously, a ShotSpotter Notification of gunfire was received for the 700 block of E. 6th Street. The officer’s immediately responded into the 700 block of E.6th Street where they located a 6-year-old juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound to his head and a 31-year-old female victim suffering from a gunshot wound to her left arm.

The officer’s rendered medical aid to the victims until the arrival of additional EMS and New Castle County Paramedics who continued treatment on scene. The juvenile male victim was transported via ambulance to the A.I DuPont Children’s Hospital and is described as in critical condition.

The female victim was transported to the St. Francis Hospital Emergency Room and is described as in stable condition.

This investigation is considered active and ongoing at the time of this release and Criminal Investigations Division Detectives remain on the scene. Additional updates will be provided as available. Wilmington – Wilmington Police along with medical crews were called to the 700 block of E. 6th Street just after 2:30 p.m., today, for reports of gunfire in the area.

Arriving units found a woman suffering from a graze wound to her arm and a child suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Reports from the scene indicate that the child was rushed to A.I. DuPont Hospital.
