Update: Route 1 Crash Near Townsend Yesterday

Townsend –  Delaware State Police spokesman Jeffery Hale released a short statement regarding yesterday’s Trooper involved accident on Route 1.

Hale said that the accident occurred SR 1 Korean War Veteran’s Memorial Highway S/B at approximately .25 miles north of Pine Tree Road in Townsend.

The crash remains under investigation but Hale did say that four vehicles were involved in the crash.

Two people suffered minor injuries and the trooper was not injured, according to Hale.

The road was closed for around two hours as Troopers investigated the scene. Traffic was diverted off of the highway until the investigation could be completed.

Townsend – Route 1 SB is currently closed near Townsend due to a multi-vehicle crash involving a Delaware State Police K-9 Unit.  Witness at the scene indicated that the car was on fire and the responding trooper was in a secondary crash.

The original call can in shortly before 9:30 this morning.
