Bel Air, MD. – Yesterday Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 5:47 pm, the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 400 block of Viola Court in Bel Air for a report of a structure fire.
Arriving units found heavy smoke coming from the garage. Approximately 25 firefighters were able to bring the one alarm blazed under control after about 10 minutes.
A woman and four other family members were home when they heard their dogs barking at the garage. The woman opened the door leading to the garage and encountered heavy smoke, according to the Maryland State Fire marshal. While closing the door the woman sustained burns to her arm. She was treated by EMS on scene but was not transported to the hospital
Investigators determined that closing the door, kept the fire contained to the garage.
Damage to the structure is estimated at $25,000.00 and the contents at $25,000.00.
