Rehoboth Beach – Bradley A. Brown, 23 of Seaford, has been located and taken into custody after he fled from police, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.
Fournier said Brown was originally listed as a Gold Alert on June 15, 2017 after he made statements of harming himself to friends via text messages. At the time, he was allegedly wanted out of Sussex Superior Court for Offensive Touching and Providing Alcohol to a Minor, according to Fournier.
On Saturday July 29, 2017 at approximately 10:15 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the Wawa located at 35436 Wolfe Neck Road for a reported shoplifting. A description was given by store employees and the subject, who was later identified as Bradley Brown, was taken into custody in the parking lot of a nearby liquor store, said Fournier.
Brown initially resisted arrest by failing to allow troopers to handcuff him, but was eventually subdued and placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle. While continuing to investigate the shoplifting, the trooper stepped out of the patrol car to contact witnesses when Brown somehow defeated the safety divider window and crawled into the front driver’s seat before exiting and fleeing the area, according to Fournier.
On Sunday July 30, 2017 at approximately 2:45 p.m., an anonymous tipster contacted Troop 7 and provided information on where Bradley Brown was currently located and his current clothing description. Troopers, along with the assistance of Rehoboth Police Department, responded to the Forgotten Mile Ale House, located at 20859 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth, and began to set up a perimeter around the business in case Brown decided to exit through one of the doors. As troopers entered the establishment, Brown saw them and began running toward the kitchen area and then exit the rear door prior to it becoming secured by officers, according to Fournier.
Troopers and officers gave chase southbound through some neighborhoods until he was eventually tasered by a trooper and placed in custody after a brief struggle.
Bradley Brown was transported back to Troop 7 in Lewes where he was charged with two counts of Resisting Arrest, Escape 3rd, Theft, and Shoplifting. He was arraigned at JP3 on these charges as well as the two charges out of Superior Court and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $4,000.00 secured bond.
