Wilmington – New Castle County Police (NCCPD) have taken three suspects into custody following a robbery that occurred in the community of Westover Hills, according to NCCPD Spokesman JP Piser.

Piser said last evening, July 27, at about 6:45 p.m., County Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Westover Road for a robbery that just occurred.

Officers arrived, checked the area and located a person matching one of the suspect’s descriptions. “As an officer exited his vehicle to approach the suspect, the suspect quickly drew a firearm from his person and fired at least one round towards our officer,” said NCCPD Chief Vaughn Bond.

The officer returned fire and an additional foot pursuit ensued, lasting about 500 yards until gunfire was once again exchanged, according to Bond.  The suspect was finally taken into custody near Greenhill Ave and West 7th Street., according to Bond.

Neither the police officer nor the suspect was injured during the incident.

Two additional suspects were taken into custody without incident in the area. No suspects are believed to be outstanding at this time.
