Man Hits Median, Rolls Vehicle Over On I-495 Bridge

Wilmington – This morning, at approximately 2:20 am, New Castle County Paramedics and personnel from the Wilmington Fire Department were dispatched to the area of Interstate 495 Southbound and the Christina River Bridge for a motor vehicle crash, involving a rollover, according to Public Information Officer Paramedic Senior Corporal David J. McKinney, Jr.

McKinney said upon arrival, County Paramedics found a 61-year-old male, whose vehicle rolled after maneuvering to avoid road debris. The patient’s vehicle rolled after striking the center median on the interstate. The patient was self-extricated from the vehicle prior to the arrival of County Paramedics. The patient was treated on scene for a possible head injury and an arm injury.

He was transported to the Trauma Center at Christiana Hospital on board an ambulance from the St. Francis Hospital with a New Castle County Paramedic accompanying. The patient was stable at the time of the crash.

The crash scene was under the command of Wilmington Fire Department personnel and the Delaware State Police were on scene and are investigating the crash.
