Man In Hospital After Being Shot Near Punkin Chunkin Location

Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a shooting which occurred early this morning east of Bridgeville, according to Public Information Officer Senior Corporal Robert W Colmery.

Colmery said the preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at approximately 2:33 a.m., after troopers were called and responded to the area of Appletree Road (CR591) south of Oak Road (CR594) for the report of a male subject that had been shot.

Upon their arrival, troopers learned that a male victim had been shot and was treated on the scene by Sussex County Paramedics. He was then transported by EMS to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later flown to the Christiana Hospital, said Colmery.

Colmery said this shooting is still in its early stages and more information will be released as it becomes available.

The location of the shooting is just north of the location where the 2017 Punkin Chunkin was to be held. The 2017 event was cancelled last week when a woman injured at a previous event filed suit in Federal court.
