One Transported To Trauma Center After Striking Utility Pole

FileClaymont – On Saturday at approximately 7:30 pm, New Castle County Paramedics and personnel from the Claymont and Brandywine Hundred Fire Companies were dispatched to the 6600 block of Governor Printz Blvd. for a motor vehicle crash, according to Senior Corporal David McKinney, Jr.

McKinney said Arriving County Paramedics found a one vehicle crash, involving a telephone pole. The patient was found in the care of Emergency Medical Technicians from the Claymont Fire Company. The patient was operating a vehicle that struck a pole during the crash, said McKinney.

He was self-extricated from the wreckage prior to the arrival of responding emergency personnel. The patient, a 55-year-old male, was treated on scene for arm and back injuries. He was transported to the Trauma Center at Christiana Hospital on board an ambulance from the Claymont Fire Company, with a New Castle County Paramedic accompanying. The patient was in serious condition at the time of transport. The crash scene was under the command of Claymont Fire Company.

The Delaware State Police were on scene and are investigating the crash.
