Police: Two Drunk Drivers Collide In Milford Accident

Milford – Two men are charged with their third offense DUI after one of them crashed into the other early Sunday night, Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.

Fournier said the incident occurred around 9:08 p.m. Sunday July 30, 2017 as Carlell Smith, 34 of Lincoln, was operating a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country minivan westbound on Benson Road approaching a stop sign with Cedar Creek Road (SR30). Smith failed to remain stopped at the stop sign and pulled into the intersection, striking a 1994 Chevrolet Astro Van being operated by Michael J. Flood, 52 of Ocean View, according to Fournier.

Both operators were removed from the scene and transported to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. While there, a DUI investigation ensued with Carlell Smith. He was charged with Third Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (two previous: 05/19/2008 and 12/16/2015, according to Fournier), Vehicular Assault 1st, Reckless Endangering 2nd, Driving While Suspended or Revoked, No Proof of Insurance, and Failure to Remain Stopped at a Stop Sign. He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $6,502.00 secured bond.

 

Smith

A DUI investigation also ensued with Michael Flood at the hospital and he was later charged with Third Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (two previous: 11/14/1991 and 12/02/2003, according to Fournier). He was arraigned at JP2 and released on $2,000.00 unsecured bond.
