Virginia Man Dies While Swimming In Ocean City
Ocean City, Maryland – (August 1, 2017): Members of the Ocean City Beach Patrol went off duty at their regularly scheduled time of 5:30 p.m. yesterday, Monday, July 31, after clearing all swimmers from the ocean. At 7:19 p.m. Ocean City Communications dispatchers began to receive calls for swimmers in distress in the area of 1st street, where witnesses on the beach reported seeing a person in the water who became submerged.
Surf Rescue Technician’s (SRT) working extended mobile patrol arrived in the area of 1st Street and the beach, followed by Ocean City Fire Department rescue swimmers and members of the Coast Guard and Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Beach Patrol Surf Rescue technicians along with fire department rescue swimmers immediately began performing search and recovery diving techniques.
The distressed swimmer, Timothy Thompson, 35, from Prince George, VA, was located shortly after the arrival of first responders and brought onto the beach where paramedics began CPR. Ocean City EMS transported Thompson to Atlantic General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
“We urge our beach patrons to swim only when the lifeguards are on duty and to take the time to walk to and swim in front of the lifeguard,” commented Ocean City Emergency Services Director Joseph Theobald. “Our deepest sympathies are with the family who lost a loved one today.”
Body Found On The Beach In Ocean City
OCEAN CITY, MD – (July 31, 2017): Ocean City police are continuing to investigate a death at 2nd Street and the beach. Officers arrived in the area of 2nd Street at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31, after learning of a body on the beach in the sand.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that victim is identified as Ashley O’Connor, 30, of Plano, Texas. The Ocean City Police Forensics Services Unit has recovered the body from the sand with assistance from Maryland State Police crime scene technicians. The body was removed at approximately 4:15 p.m. and will be evaluated by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who will determine a cause and manner of death.
Police said that the investigation is ongoing at this time.
Man Falls From Ocean City Hotel Balcony, In Critical
Ocean City, Maryland – (July 29, 2017) A unidentified 37-year-old man is in critical condition after falling from an Ocean City hotel balcony on Saturday. Police said the man was sitting on a balcony railing on the third-floor balcony at the 14th Street Commander Hotel. As the man sat on the railing he fell according. Police indicated that alcohol may have been a factor.
The man remains in Peninsula Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
