5-Year-Old Girl Playing In Front Of Home Shot In Little Italy Neighborhood

Wilmington – Wilmington Police and Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation Unit) are on scene for a report of a five year old shot in North Wilmington.

Trooper 4 hovered over Wilmington today to assist the Wilmington Police Department in the investigation of the shooting.

Reports indicate that the child was shot and grazed in the lower leg.

Trooper 4 hovered over a home, a couple of blocks away from the shooting scene, as a large group of police officers searched the home. It’s believed the police were searching for the suspect at the residence.

The Wilmington Police released a Statement:

On September 04, 2017 at approximately 5:08 pm, Wilmington Police Officer’s responded to the 1900 block of W. 5th Street regarding a shots fired complaint. Arriving police officer’s were directed to a house located in the 1900 block of W. 5th Street where a 5-year-old girl was found suffering from an apparent gunshot graze wound to her lower, right leg area. The child was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to the St. Francis Hospital Emergency Room in good condition.

Criminal Investigations Division Detectives as well as Uniformed Services Division continue to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. The only suspect information available at the time of this release in an unknown black male, approximately 18-25 years of age.
