Happening Now: Bus Fire Shuts Down Route 1 SB Near Townsend

Townsend – Firefighters from the Townsend Fire Company, along with Delaware State Troopers have responded to Route 1 SB near Pine Tree Road for reports of a bus on fire.

As firefighters arrived that told dispatch that the passenger cabin was on fire. Within a few seconds crews alerted dispatch that the bus was fully engulfed with flames. Smoke from the bus was across the north and south bounds lanes as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control. Command alerted dispatch that Route 1 SB would be closed for some time.

Shortly thereafter firefighters turned the scene over to the Delaware State Police for investigation.

Traffic is down to one lane as troopers investigate.
