Man Held On $318,000 Cash Bond, Charged With Carjacking, Unlawful Imprisonment

Georgetown – On Monday Georgetown Police observed Michael Lopez near the 100 block of South Bedford St. and took Lopez into custody without incident. Lopez was charged with Robbery First Degree, two counts of Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, two counts of Aggravated Menacing, two counts of Unlawful Imprisonment First Degree, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Carjacking. Lopez was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $318,000 cash bond.

Georgetown – Georgetown Police have identified and obtained warrants for a robbery and carjacking suspect stemming from an incident on Wednesday August 30, 2017.
Georgetown Police investigated two incidents which both occurred on the evening of 08/29/2017, involving the same suspect. At approximately 5:30 p.m. on 08/29/2017, Georgetown Police responded to the area of County Bank for an attempted robbery complaint. Investigation revealed that the suspect introduced himself to the victim by way of social media and both agreed to participate in the reality based location game, PokemonGO.

The suspect met the victim East of Georgetown at which time the suspect entered the victim’s vehicle as a passenger. During their ride, the suspect produced a boxcutter and threatened the victim. The suspect then forced the victim to attempt withdrawing funds from a bank ATM. After making several attempts to attain funds from the ATM, the suspect fled on foot.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Georgetown Police responded to the area of N. Race Street for a carjacking complaint. Officers learned that an adult female and two juveniles were sitting in a vehicle which was parked on N. Race Street. The suspect entered the driver’s door of the victim’s vehicle and began to operate the vehicle on Race Street. The suspect traveled approximately four to five blocks before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

Through investigation, Georgetown Detectives have identified the suspect as Micheal Lopez 36, who is documented as homeless in the Georgetown area.
