Wilmington Police File

Wilmington – On Wednesday, September,27 2017, at approximately 6:15 pm, Wilmington police were dispatched to the Shop Rite, located in 501 S. Walnut Street in reference to a stabbing incident, according to police.

Officials said upon the officers arrival, they located a 32-year-old female victim inside the supermarket suffering from several wounds to her thigh, ankle, and elbow.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that the medics where concerned about the wounds to the woman’s thigh so a trauma alert called.

The female victim was treated on scene by New Castle County paramedics then transported via ambulance to the Christiana Hospital where she is currently listed in stable condition.

While interviewing the victim, the victim advised that she was leaving Shop Rite and was walking to her motor vehicle. Upon entering her vehicle a 37-year-old male suspect opened the driver’s side door and began to enter her vehicle while armed with a knife, said police.

The Victim advised that the suspect grabbed her car keys and began trying to start the vehicle while the victim was located in the front passenger seat. As the victim attempted to exit the vehicle through the passenger side door the male suspect stabbed her with a knife, according to police.

The victim stated that she managed to exit her vehicle then ran towards the Shop Rite while the male suspect chased after her.

A 67-year-old male witness stated that he was in the Shop Rite parking lot when he heard the female victim screaming, so he went to assist her.

The male witness advised that as he attempted to open the driver’s side door to the female victim’s vehicle the suspect exited the vehicle and began taunting him with the knife threatening to kill him, said police.

As a result, the 67-year-old witness did sustain a small laceration to his finger. The 67-year-old witness stated that he retreated back to his own vehicle at which time the suspect followed him and attempted to open the driver’s side door, but was unsuccessful, according to police.

The male suspect fled the scene. Arriving patrol units obtained a description of the male suspect and relayed this information to assisting officers.

During an area search, officers located the male suspect on S. Market Street, just north of Shop Rite. The suspect was taken into police custody without incident.

Officials indicated that the suspect was observed, on surveillance footage, inside the Shop Rite just prior to this incident. A knife was located and recovered from a storm drain located in the 500 block of S. Market Street, added police.
