Police: Woman Walking On Kirkwood Hwy Struck And Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal hit and run crash that killed a pedestrian early this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.

Fournier said the incident occurred around 12:35 a.m. Saturday September 30, 2017 as a 50-year-old Wilmington female was initially observed walking in the vicinity of the intersection of Kirkwood Highway (SR2) and Farrand Drive. She was then observed by witnesses crossing from the south side of SR2 towards the north side of the roadway when she stepped into the path of what was described as a dark colored pickup truck, said Fournier. After the collision, the vehicle continued westbound on SR2 without stopping.

The 50-year-old victim, who was not carrying a light or crossing in a designated pedestrian crosswalk, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

Kirkwood Highway in the area of Farrand Drive was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
