Yesterday’s Middletown Crash Leaves New York Man Dead

Middletown – On 09-03-2017, at 5:35 PM, a 2007 Jeep Cherokee bearing Maryland registration was traveling southbound in the right lane on Rt. 301, according to Middletown Police Department Chief Michael Iglio.

Iglio said the driver apparently failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection of Rt. 301 in the area of Rt. 299 initially colliding with a 2013 BMW 328i, bearing New York registration, and then colliding with a 2003 Mercedes-Benz ML350, bearing Maryland registration.

Both the BMW and Mercedes were turning left from Rt. 299 to travel north on Rt. 301. The driver of the BMW was killed and the other occupants of the BMW were transported to Christiana Hospital as a precaution and released with no reported injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes sustained minor injuries and was released on scene. The driver of the Jeep was treated on scene and released with no reported injuries. The roadway was closed in the southbound and eastbound directions, while traffic was diverted around the intersection for approximately three (3) hours while the investigation took place.
