Newark – Newark Police Department is investigating an assault that occurred on 10/1/17 at approximately 1:20 am on the sidewalk in the unit block of New London Road, according to police.
Officials said she victim, a 21-year-old male from Beachwood, NJ, reported that he was walking northbound on New London Road with a group of people when he got into an argument with several other subjects in the area.
The victim stated that he continued walking northbound when he was suddenly struck from behind by a hard object, according to police. The victim stated he was also struck in the face with a fist. The suspects then ran southbound towards E. Main Street.
Officers located a broken beer bottle in the area where the victim was assaulted and it is believed to be the object that was used to strike the victim on the back of his head. The victim sustained a laceration on the back of his head and was treated at the scene by EMS personnel. The only suspect description provided was a black male wearing a dark colored sweatshirt. A witness to the assault reported that a dark blue sports utility vehicle may have been associated with the suspects.
