File

New Castle – New Castle County Police Patrol Officers have arrested a 17-year-old male in connection for a nighttime burglary in the neighborhood of Simonds Gardens, according to M/Cpl. Michel Eckerd.

Eckerd said this morning (October 4) at approximately 3:30 a.m. patrol officers from the New Castle County Police were dispatched to the unit block of Calahan Road for an in-progress burglary. Officers learned that the homeowner stated that he was asleep in his bedroom when he heard someone up and walking around. When he sat up he saw the shape of a person lying on the bedroom floor.

The homeowner reported that it appeared as though the individual was reaching for money that he had left out on the dresser, said Eckerd. The homeowner turned on the bedroom light, saw the juvenile and held him until police arrived.

The 17-year old juvenile was charged with: Burglary to a residence, felony, Attempted Theft, misdemeanor, and Criminal Impersonation, misdemeanor. Currently, he is at New Castle County Police headquarters awaiting arraignment, said Eckerd.
