Troopers ID Man Killed In Otts Chapel Road Head-on Collision

Newark – The Delaware State Police have identified the man who was killed in a crash which occurred at approximately 7:39 a.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2017 on Otts Chapel Rd. over top of I-95 in Newark, as Thomas Breslin, 51, of Port Deposit, Maryland.

Newark – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that took place on Otts Chapel, over top of I-95 in Newark, according to police.

Officials said the investigation has determined that at approximately 7:39 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 a 2008 Toyota Camry driven by a 93-year-old Newark man, was traveling Otts Chapel Rd. northbound just prior to the I-95 overpass. The Toyota drifted off the right side of the roadway, with the right side of the vehicle striking a guardrail. After impacting the guardrail the Toyota veered left into the southbound lanes of Otts Chapel Rd. directly into the path of a 1999 Honda Civic driven by a 23-year-old, Port Deposit Maryland man, at which time the vehicles collided head on, according to police.

As a result of the collision a 51-year-old Port Deposit man, who was the front seat passenger in the Honda, was transported to Christiana Hospital where he died from his injuries. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Honda was transported to Christiana Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. A 28-year-old Port Deposit man, who was a rear seat passenger in the Honda was transported to Christiana Hospital where he was being treated for serious injuries.

The operator of the Toyota was transported to Christiana Hospital where he was also being treated for serious injuries.

Otts Chapel Rd. between W. Chestnut Hill Rd. and Welsh Tract Rd. was closed for approximately three hours as a result of the crash.

Drug or alcohol use is not being considered a factor on behalf of either operator.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.

Original Breaking Story

Newark –  Just before 8:00 this morning crews from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, Christiana and Singerly Fire Companies along with an army of New Castle County Paramedics responded to Otts Chapel Road & I-95 for reports of an accident with four patients possibly trapped.

Arriving crews found at least three of the four patients trapped as a result of  a head-on collision. Crews extricated the patients and rushed them to Christiana Hospital with a trauma alert called.

Otts Chapel Road was closed in both direction at the I-95 overpass for more than three and a half hours. Traffic was diverted from the area while Troopers investigated.

Authorities have not released the conditions of the patients at this time.
