Update: Police Release Statement
Yesterday (November 6) at 10:21 p.m., County Police were called to the area of Capitol Trail between Parke Ave and Peikin Ave for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Officers observed two vehicles were involved in a collision.
One of the vehicles, an Acura RDX was being operated by a 31-year-old male. The marked New Castle County Police patrol vehicle was being operated by an officer on duty, who was responding to a call for a fight in progress.
The 31-year-old operator of the RDX was not injured. The officer was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries.
This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Traffic Services Unit.
Newark – Just before 9:00, last evening, rescue crews from the Mill Creek Fire Company, along with the Cranston Heights Fire Company and New Castle County Paramedics responded to the intersection of Capitol Trail and Meadowood Drive for reports of an accident with injuries.
Arriving crews found two vehicles with heavy damage, one being a New Castle County Police patrol car. Reports from the scene indicate that a County Police Officer was transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It doesn’t appear that the driver of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage. The patrol car has heavy damage to the driver’s side front and windshield.
The second vehicle has heavy damage to the passenger side rear. Kirkwood Highway was closed between Harmony Road and Meadowood Drive for several hours as police investigated the accident.
We’re expecting authorities to provide more information about the accident and road closure later today.

Newark – Rescue crews have responded to the area of Kirkwood Highway in the area of the Newark Farmers Market for reports of a serious crash involving a County Police Office.
Authorities have shut down the roadway in both directions. We are working to gather information.
Reports from the scene indicate that Kirkwood Highway is closed between Harmony Road and Meadowwood Drive.
