New Castle -New Castle County Police detectives have charged 24-year-old Ricardo Mendez for a stabbing, that occurred last night in the Castlebrook Apartment Complex, according to M/Cpl. Heather Carter.
Carter said yesterday, November 6, at approximately 6:47 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 500 block of S.DuPont Hwy for a cutting.
Police learned that 29-year-old Anastasia Gear was visiting a family member in the apartment complex when she was approached by Ricardo Mendez in the parking lot. The victim was stabbed multiple times in the torso, according to Carter. She was transported to an area hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
County Police Detectives said they developed Ricardo Mendez of the 800 block of N. Adams Street as a suspect and he is known to the victim, said Carter.
During the course of the investigation, Ricardo Mendez was contacted by Delaware State Police at the McDonald’s located at 101 S. DuPont hwy in an unrelated incident. Ricardo Mendez was arrested by troopers for carrying a concealed deadly weapon, criminal impersonation and disorderly conduct, said Carter. He is currently being held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.
Ricardo Mendez has been charged by County detectives with murder in the first degree and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He will be held at Vaughn Correctional Center until he is arraigned by County detectives.

Carter said at approximately 6:47 p.m., yesterday, patrol officers were dispatched to the 500 block of S.DuPont Hwy for a cutting.
Arriving officer learned that a 29-year-old female had been transported to an area hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injury, according to Carter.
Carter said that the investigation is in its preliminary stages and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
