Second Patient Has Succumb To Injuries Suffered In Fire, One Still In Critical

Richardson Park –  A 79-year-old female rescued from the burning home Tuesday passed away from her injuries on Wednesday at the Crozer Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania. A 60-year-old male had died on Tueday at the Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.  A 59-year-old male remains in critical condition at the Crozer Medical Center, added Chionchio.

Investigators are continuing the investigation into the fire’s origin and cause. There have been a total of 9 fire deaths this year equaling 2016 which also had 9 fire deaths for the year.

“The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s house fire in Wilmington, Delaware that critically injured two people and a third person is deceased. The blaze, reported shortly before 9:00 am, occurred in the unit block of Norway Avenue, Richardson Park.

The Five Points Fire Company arrived on the scene with smoke pouring from the two story house. Firefighters rescued two occupants from the home. The 3rd occupant was able to escape. State fire investigators are on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. The deceased male occupant was transferred to the DE Division of Forensic Science.

The other two occupants were transferred to the Crozer Burn Center after being treated at the Christiana Hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. Investigators are in the process of notifying their relatives.
Heavy fire damage is estimated at $200,000. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.”

Richardson Park –  This morning, just after 9:00, Fire Crews from from across New Castle County responded to the unit block of Norway Avenue for reports of a house on fire.

As crews responded to the scene they were being told that two people were trapped inside the home. The homeowner, who is described by neighbors as a caretaker, was able to escaped the home on his own. Within seconds the man rushed back inside to save his elderly aunt and an elderly friend, said one neighbor.

Responding crews found the two patients in distress and began CPR on both. The man and the two elderly patients were rushed to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.

Early reports indicate that smoke was showing showing from the front of the structure upon arrival. Command called for crews to search the home and attack the fire in the attic.

Fire Marshals took the usual step of call out it mobile command center and are on scene investigating.
