Today’s Crash On Route 4 Leaves One Dead, Sends One To Hospital

Newark – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:23 p.m., Tuesday November 7, 2017 on E. Chestnut Hill Rd. (DE Rt. 4) in the area of Todd Lane, Newark, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the investigation has determined that a 2014 Kia Sorento, operated by a 38-year-old Newark man was traveling eastbound on E. Chestnut Hill Road in the right lane, approaching Todd Lane. A 1975 Chevrolet Corvette, operated by a 77-year-old Newark man, exited Todd Lane, onto E. Chestnut Hill Road, directly into the path of the Kia, at which time the front end of the Kia struck the drivers side door of the Chevrolet. After the impact the Kia continued in an easterly direction, coming to a stop on the shoulder of E. Chestnut Hill Road. The Chevrolet spun in a counter clock-wise direction and came to a stop in the E. Chestnut Hill Road, westbound, left turn lane for Todd Lane.

The operator of the Kia who was wearing a seatbelt, was treated at Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The operator of the Chevrolet who was not wearing a seatbelt was transported to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

E. Chestnut Hill Road was closed for approximately two hours.
