Two Displaced After Wilmington House Fire


Wilmington – Last night at 7:50 PM Wilmington Firefighters on the C platoon were alerted to a building fire at 204 N. Union Street, according to Public Information Officer Battalion Chief John Looney.

Looney said Engine 6 arrived on location and reported smoke showing from a two story residential over commercial end of the row building. Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Michael Schaal arrived shortly after and requested a 4th engine for suppression duties.

Engine 6 began aggressive interior fire attack on the first floor. Ladder 2 and Squad 4 on their arrival immediately initiated search of both floors for occupants. No occupants were found after search was completed, said Looney.

The scene was placed under control at 8:15 PM by the Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Michael Schaal. The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office responded to and is investigating the cause of the fire. The Red Cross was notified to assist a total of two adults with shelter.

Approximately 27 fire and EMS personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: Engine 6, Engine 1, Skyboom 2, Squad 4, Ladder 2, Battalion-1, Battalion-2, FM-12, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Medics, Wilmington Licenses & Inspections, Delmarva Power, and the American Red Cross.
