Just In: Woman Robbed At Gunpoint In Newark’s Fashion Center Parking Lot

Newark – Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery involving a handgun, which took place in the parking lot of a Newark area shopping center, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 3:26 p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2017, in the parking lot of the DSW shoe store, located at 2600 Fashion Center Boulevard, Newark, as a 61-year-old, Salem, NJ woman, was attempting to enter her vehicle.

The victim had just opened her driver’s door, when she was approached from behind by a subject, who struck her in the head, in turn, knocking her into the side of the vehicle. The suspect then displayed a black handgun, and threatened to kill the victim, as he snatched her purse, said Austin. After obtaining the purse, the suspect entered into the front passenger seat of an awaiting vehicle, which then fled the scene, according to Austin. The victim sustained a contusion to her forehead as a result of the incident, however she declined medical treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male, 30-40 years of age, 6’00”, 200 lbs., wearing a black jacket, knit hat and armed with a black, unknown make and model handgun.

The suspect vehicle was described as a black, newer model Dodge Charger, with a white license plate. The driver of the vehicle could only be described as a black male.
