Troopers: Dump Truck Caused This Morning’s Wrangle Hill Road Closure

Bear – The incident occurred at approximately 6:50 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 as a 2007, Mack dump truck, operated by Jamal Thomas, 27, of Newark, was traveling Wrangle Hill Road (DE 72), eastbound, approaching Red Lion Road (DE 71), according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said that Thomas was unaware that the dump body portion of his vehicle was in the up position, and it struck overhead utility lines, bringing them, and the attached pole down into the roadway.

Thomas who was properly restrained at the time of the incident was uninjured as result of the crash and no other vehicles were involved. Impairment is not being considered a factor on Thomas’ behalf, however he was cited for Inattentive driving.

Wrangle Hill road was closed for approximately seven hours as repairs were made.
