Reports: Car Slams Into Tow Truck Driver At Accident Scene In Newark

Newark – Early Sunday Morning, at approximately 1:30 am, as Delaware State Troopers and a tow truck operator were clearing an accident at the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and S Chapel Street (Route 72) a driver plowed into the accident scene, according to witness Shannon Lynn.

Lynn said she was driving with her boyfriend on Old Baltimore Pike when a car traveling at a high rate of speed passed them. “Right when we passed the accident the car that slammed into the tow truck, flew by us at high speeds, my boyfriend watched it slam into one of the vehicles involved, before slamming into the tow truck and the tow truck driver”, said Lynn.

Troopers have yet to release information regarding the initial crash or the subsequent crash that led to the tow truck operator’s injuries but the New Castle County Paramedics did release a short statement on Sunday morning.  Paramedic First Class Yvonne Russell said “upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found the patient, 40-year-old male, in care of emergency medical technicians (EMT’s) from Christiana Fire Company. The patient suffered injuries to his head and had body-wide abrasions.

The patient was treated on scene for his injuries before being transported to Christiana Hospital via Christiana Fire Company ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport, said Russell.

After the impact, Lynn returned to the scene and began to document what she was seeing with her phone.  Her video shows the tow truck operator being helped by Troopers, while other Troopers appear to place the driver of the car under arrest.

Lynn said that she believed that the driver was given a test by the Troopers before he was handcuffed and placed into the Troopers vehicle.

No one was hurt in the original accident, according to Lynn. The original accident involved a driver and a passenger but they were both okay, added Lynn.
