Troopers Id Bridgeville Homicide Victim, Arrest Made

Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police are releasing the name of the male subject that died as a result of a shooting northwest of Bridgeville on January 25, 2018, as Tavyon M. Sykes, 18 of Greenwood, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.

Bratz said the preliminary investigation has revealed that on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at approximately 1:41 p.m., Troopers were notified that a victim had been dropped off by a private vehicle at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. Upon arrival to the hospital, Troopers were informed that an 18-year-old male victim of Greenwood had been shot and succumb to his injuries. The shooting was reported to have occurred at the intersection of Newton Road and Adams Road, Bridgeville.

On Friday, January 26, 2018, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for suspect Jared C. Mitchell, 31 of Greenwood for Murder 1st degree, two counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Reckless Endangering, and two counts Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited.

Troopers did not disclose how they developed Mitchell as a suspect in this case.

Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into a homicide that occurred yesterday afternoon, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the preliminary investigation has revealed that on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at approximately 1:41 p.m., State Police were notified that a victim had been dropped off by a private vehicle at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. Upon arrival to the hospital, Troopers were informed that an 18-year-old male victim of Greenwood had been shot and succumb to his injuries. The shooting was reported to have occurred at the intersection of Newton Road and Adams Road, Bridgeville.

Newton Road at the intersection of Adams Road was closed for approximately one hour while Troopers secured and investigated the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This incident continues to remain under investigation by the homicide unit and further information will be released as it becomes available.
