Troopers Update Newark Dry Cleaners Armed Robbery

Newark – Delaware State Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Newark area dry cleaner that occurred yesterday afternoon, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 12:52 p.m., Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Salem Dry Cleaners, located at 16 Salem Village Square, Newark. A male suspect, approached a 72-year-old employee at the sales counter, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register, according to Austin.

The employee complied with the demand by placing an undisclosed amount of cash in to a bag provided by the suspect. The suspect exited the store, fleeing in a dark colored SUV, southbound on Salem Church Road. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The male suspect is described as having a light complexion, 5’5”-5’7”, 140-160 lbs., wearing all black clothing, black wool cap, black mask covering the lower portion of his face and in possession of a black handgun.

Breaking Report

Newark-Area – Just before 1:00 this afternoon Delaware State Police responded to the unit block of Salem Church Road for reports of an armed robbery at the Salem French Dry Cleaners.

The robbery occurred in the Salem Village Square shopping center, located next to Christiana High School.
